This playful valance can look whimsical, masculine, or elegant, depending on fabrics, trims, and the amount of gather you put into the pinched tops. It can be adapted to fit any window width. The finished length of the valance from the top of the board is approximately 14 ½ at the shortest point, 18at the sides and approximately 23 at the center points. This valance works best when constructed out of a medium-weight decorative fabric.
This treatment was totally self-lined. A decorative lining should be used because it will show underneath at the sides and in the pleat area.
The backdrop can be constructed out of the same fabric as the face fabric or a contrast lining.
This valance is mounted on a dust board; either a 1 x 4 or 1 x 6 can be used depending on the projection desired.
These amounts are for a valance measuring 42 wide finished. See pattern for other window widths. These amounts are based on 54 wide fabric.
